At St John of Jerusalem Church of England Primary School, our vision is to ensure that all pupils and staff are fully prepared for the future of digital technology, thus ensuring they are ready and able to embrace the technological advances of the future. In addition to this, that all lessons are delivered in a fun way, with pupil collaboration. Pupil talk and participation is the key to success for all our lessons.
Computing is an important tool for teaching and learning across all other subject areas. We endeavour to help pupils see Computing as a natural tool for enhancing knowledge and skills through research, analysis, evaluation and presentation of their work. We aim for the children to confidently and independently use and apply information technology skills to support and extend their learning.
Online safety is extremely very important. We run an annual Internet Safety Day for all our children and have introduced online safety workshops for parents. In addition, online safety is taught on a rolling basis and every half term discrete sessions are taught as part of PSHE and Computing.
When using computers, our primary aim is for all children to use them safely and confidently. We use a variety of resources for Computing and Coding, both including opportunities for pupils to work on unplugged computing activities ( learning about Computer Science without using a computer) and computer-based activities.
As part of our curriculum, we also blog - writing entries on a safe site about different topics. These topics cover all curriculum subjects. Pupils have the opportunity to use this service at home under school policy guidelines, to build on their future use of technology beyond school.
